Shirley was instrumental in helping the Directors to establish Southwark Schools Learning Partnership. She was the key to getting the duo, trios and quartets off the ground, ensuring that all schools took the lead for at least one subject area. The value of those early projects of peer observations and pedagogical discussions cannot be over-estimated. These resulted in some innovative and ground breaking activities involving students, such as the Year 7 Newsletter Exchange between St Saviour’s and St Olave’s with James Allen’s Girls' School and the Moliere play performed by Year 7 boys from Dulwich College and Year 7 girls from St Saviour’s and St Olave’s.
Shirley ensured that each of the links from the nine schools were kept informed and engaged. Strong professional relationships have grown and the networking between state and independent schools has gathered momentum since those early, tentative days. This has been of enormous benefit to both teachers and students as the range and scope of activities have grown, nurtured by Shirley’s gentle nudging!
We say goodbye to Shirley this summer and wish her well.
